Abstract

Local governance is considered an effective and efficient model for managing affairs and decision-making at the community level. Given the presence of various actors with different levels of power within local communities, it seeks to explain methods for interaction among different elements to promote development and security in local societies. This issue can be particularly challenging in border regions.
The aim of the present study is to examine the role of local governance in fostering a sense of social security among residents of the border villages in the Sib and Soran Rural District. This research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of nature and methodology. First, based on documentary and library studies, the research variables were extracted and used as the basis for designing a researcher-made questionnaire. During the field survey phase, the questionnaire was completed by selected sample participants.
The statistical population of the study consists of villagers from 12 villages in the Sib and Soran Rural District, which includes 2,234 households and a total population of 8,914 people. Based on Cochran's formula and an error margin of 0.07, a sample size of 193 households was selected for data collection. To analyze the collected data, one-sample T-tests and regression analysis were conducted using SPSS software.
The findings of the study indicate that the performance of local village managers only partially aligns with the principles of good governance. Additionally, all dimensions of the sense of social security in the studied villages are below the average level. According to the multivariate regression analysis, all dimensions of local governance—with a significance level of less than 0.05—have had an impact on establishing a sense of social security among the studied villages.
