Abstract
The professional and educational composition of the members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, as the country's principal legislative institution, is among the factors affecting the quality and efficiency of the lawmaking and oversight processes. This research aims to comprehensively analyze the educational and professional status of the members across ten terms of the Islamic Consultative Assembly. The present study employs a descriptive-analytical method and has gathered data concerning the members' fields of study, levels of education, and their specialized distribution within the standing committees from documentary and library sources. Subsequently, using descriptive statistics and statistical tests (such as Chi-square), the relationship between the aforementioned variables and the likelihood and pattern of presence in the Assembly has been examined. The findings indicate that the distribution of fields of study among the members is not uniform, with a significant concentration in specific areas (such as law, medical sciences, and cultural fields). Furthermore, a higher education level has been predominant in most terms, and the distribution of members across the committees also does not show complete alignment with their fields of study. These results suggest that the lack of sufficient diversity and alignment in the professional and educational composition of the members can affect the comprehensiveness and efficiency of legislative decision-making. Finally, measures to increase professional diversity and improve the alignment of fields of study with the duties of the committees are proposed.
