Abstract

The migration of Afghans to Iran is a prime example of how geopolitical and socio-economic factors influence human movements. This phenomenon, rooted in a history of conflict, economic need, and the pursuit of security, has had profound impacts on Iran as a host country. Understanding these dynamics is crucial not only for addressing the immediate needs of migrants but also for assessing the long-term effects on Iran's social fabric, economy, and national security. This migration offers important lessons about the interplay between migration, security, and socio-economic development, highlighting the need for policies that go beyond border control and address the root causes of migration such as conflict, unemployment, and inequality. The impacts of this migration on Iran's population composition, labor markets, public services, and social cohesion require comprehensive policy responses that consider both the welfare of migrants and the interests of the host society. Recognizing the importance of this migration in the broader geopolitical and socio-economic context is essential for effectively managing not only this migration corridor but also similar phenomena globally. By understanding these complexities, policymakers can better navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by migration and contribute to creating more sustainable, secure, and prosperous societies. This understanding not only enriches our comprehension of migration's impact at the regional level but also enhances our global approach to addressing the challenges of forced migration.
