Abstract

Today, migration in developing countries has become a major issue, and in Iran, Tehran as the largest city in the country, and because of the concentration of facilities and services, it is the most attractive place for the ethnic migrants from all over the country. The identity and conflicting behaviors of ethnic migrants in Tehran metropolis may threaten social unity of the society and challenge social security of the city. This would be more tangible for Azerbaijani migrants as the largest ethnic migrant group in Tehran. This study tried to investigate by using a descriptive-analytic method, questionnaires and interviews with migrants, the identity behaviors and the relationship between the sense of national identity and ethnic identity among Azerbaijani migrants in District 10 of Tehran metropolis. Results showed that the identity behaviors of Azerbaijani migrants in Tehran, in spite of their partial tendency to ethnic identity, usually are line with national identity due to the long history of Azerbaijanis’ attachment to the country and national identity.
